Metafit classes

Created by a former Royal Marine Commando and a National Gymnast, Metafit combines traditional bodyweight exercises with the latest High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and Tabata techniques, working on the premise that in order to burn fat, you need to boost your resting metabolism.

30 minutes of Metafit burns approximately 300 kilocalories during exercise and up to 500 kilocalories of additional afterburn.

With HIIT, we alternate between short periods of intense anaerobic exercise and less intensive recovery periods. Tabata is a training method originally employed by the Japanese Olympic Speed Skating team and is named after sports scientist Izumi Tabata. His studies found that subjects who performed an intense four minute workout, five times per week, incorporating just eight 20-second full sprints improved their aerobic fitness by almost 50% when compared with those who did hour-long sessions of moderate exercise.

Metafit combines these techniques to produce a heart-pumping, muscle-burning workout that takes just 30 minutes, but boosts your resting metabolic rate for up to 24 hours afterwards. This effect, called EPOC (Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption) is responsible for an additional 65% calorie afterburn.

Sounds Tough?

It is! But the short session, broken up into rapid-fire 20 second bursts of intense workout, followed by brief recovery periods before moving on to the next exercise, allows you to work to your own limit and then push that limit up as your fitness improves and your stamina builds. And believe me, it will!

The session starts with a five minute warm-up and mobility section, then 20 minutes of workout, followed by 5 minutes of recovery. Afterwards you will feel fatigued, but not completely exhausted. The exercises I use change weekly, involving anything from push-ups and planks, to burpees and squats, so you will find the session always remains varied, fun and motivational.
